“Innerdependence”

Feb 12th

Innerdependence – I love that this has the squiggles underneath! This is insane! THATS the word I was looking for! The idea of being able to THINK and do things on your own!!!

It’s the idea that we are working on things “internally” – that idea being the “inner” part of the word, the prefix if you will. That’s the part that comes first, that’s the part that we truly want to achieve. That’s the self-actualization that we all need to be able to tackle our own problems, thoughts, ideas. It all starts in our heads. That’s where this all comes from. By having the thoughts, words, and deeds of being able to live life.

The second part of the word, “dependent” is where we also build out the meaning of the word. Where we need so many things in our lives. We are essentially, dependent on the food and drink that we all need to survive. We are all dependent on these things. And it’s not just food and water, it’s the roof over our heads, the clothes we wear, the jobs we have to make money to be able to pay for all the things above. It may be a hard hitting realization, but we are all truly dependent human beings. Just look at the show “Naked and Afraid” and you can see how long people last without anything. They immediately need people and food.

So, combining these two words, the “inner” and the “dependent” we get a new word and a new idea. To be able to achieve the things that we need most to live and survive, we have to work towards an inner state of being that allows us to be open to the experiences, ideas, thoughts and actions of the people and places around us to be able to survive.

So for some people, that’s being able to drive themselves down to the supermarket, and get some fruit, veggies, meat and cereal to survive and eat. But in a country where supermarkets don’t exist, what about them? Well, they may have to get it by trading, farming themselves, storing the goods, or learning to go without a particular food item for a period of time.

Everyone’s level of innerdependence is different. Me right now, I have to get help with my legs when they are so tight and tired, the spasms kick in, and when I’m in the wheelchair, I gotta lug em up, cross one lol over the other in a figure four, and get my shoe off. But! I can’t! Cuz my legs are so tight! So I have to ask for a lil help to cross my legs. Or, I might have to ask for a little help getting my legs up and in the bed at the end of the day when they tighten up and are rigid and tired and don’t wanna move from the position they are in. So I gotta ask for help.

What I’m saying is, your innerdependence requires you to be able to think critically about what you are doing. What you are experiencing, when to ask for help, when to lend a helping hand, when to smile, when to turn the other way. It’s our connection internally with those around us, and the world beneath you.

I think this is something I’ve been struggling with, because it is something that takes some time to develop. It requires us to think critically over our situations, reflect inwards, out forth a lot of effort and either do the action, or ask for help from an outside source.

We really do live in such an interconnected society. Look at the room around you. How many things in this room were created and manipulated by someone else, a team of someone else, or too many to count??? I think you would be hard pressed to even look away from the light fixture, and realize there might have been up to 100 people or more that were involved with making that singular thing! And we haven’t even looked away from the light!

So what I want us to all do, is be able to realize our part in it all. Know where we are able to ask for help, lend a helping hand, create something new, or fix something old. We really are in this with others, it’s our job to do what we can.

Callie’s Thoughts:

“It’s almost symbiotic independence, your like independent, but when things are in symbiosis, they are working on things together for each other”

“Two or more organisms doing things that benefit one another”

“So Google the definition of symbiosis to see if I’m not wrong”

“interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both.”

John’s Thoughts:

There’s a lot going here with this word, try to put it in one sentence. If you can’t put it in one sentence, then the idea is more like an idea, and not a sentence.

“I understand what you’re getting at, but what’s your definition”

“Using our conscious mind to act in the benefit of ourselves and others”

I stopped my spasms!!
